KARACHI: A summary of Rs 600 million seeking release of grant-in-aid for Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KWSB) to ensure payments of outstanding dues of its 881 retired and late employees is pending with the Chief Minister Sindh for the last one month.

United Workers' Union KWSB first took the issue with the provincial government requesting it to ensure early payments of arrears of the board's retired and late employees.

Meanwhile on directives of Sindh Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani, the Secretary Kbaldi Haydez Shah had moved a summary to chief minister house proposing a grant-in-aid amounting to Rs 600 million in favor of March 24, 2019, however, the approval is still awaited, the union's chairman Jozaf Sanam said in a statement on Sunday.

He deplored that the arrears of retired employees of KW&SB are increasing with the passage of time which have now reached upto 600 million. Non disbursement of outstanding dues from the board has left hundred of families into severe financial crises.

“881 retired employees and the families of late workers of Karachi Water and Sewerage Board (KW&SB) are running from pillar to post to get their outstanding dues as the Sindh government seems least bothered to resolve the issue, putting hundreds of families into severe financial crises”, Sanam said.

Sanam further said that the M.D, Kw&SB endorsed the proposal for Grant-in-Aid of Rs. 600 million in favor of KW &SB to resole the genuine grievances of KW&SB regarding their payments/arrears.

The union leader urged chief minister for immediate release of the fund.
