First ever dead, cremated cat to be soon launched into space

After fighting a lethal battle with diabetes, a dead cat’s remains are now being sent to space to fly off in the orbit as a space memorial, making it as the first one.

A beloved house cat named Pikachu passed away few months ago from complications after diabetes. The owner now plans to send its remains to space as a part of a strange tribute, making it the first cremated cat to enter orbit.

A pet memorial service named Celestis Pets will be blasting off Pikachu into space, ‘sometime in the next 18 months’. In order to make this dream come true, owner Steve Munt is raising money through a funding-raising website to help pay for the cat’s $5,000 service, captioning, ‘Pikachu will have a final send-off like no cat has ever had before’.

Cremated remains of 100 people sent to space

Celestis Pet informed that the container of the pet’s ashes will remain in the orbit until they are vaporized upon en-entry into Earth’s atmosphere, ‘harmlessly vaporizing like a shooting star in final tribute’.

The service has previously already launched cremated remains of two dogs into orbit, but the cat will be the first one, reported Futurism.

“I wanted Pikachu to be the first,” Munt told Space.com, saying he wanted to ‘continue his legacy as an explorer and show the world that a cat is just as worthy as a dog of a special tribute’.
