In an effort to accommodate the visually impaired people, Microsoft has patented a new form of Xbox controller with a built-in Braille display.

According to a new Microsoft patent discovered by LetsGoDigital, the company is planning to make its Xbox console more accessible to visually impaired people with the help of an in-built Braille touchscreen – a system of touch reading and writing for blind persons where raised dots represent letters of the alphabet.

Xbox responds to Google’s new gaming service, promises to ‘go big’ soon

The Braille touchscreen will give gamers a live feed of on-screen text and chat. The display sits on the back of the controller where a person’s fingers would already be resting. It would recognize speech commands and translate them into Braille input, allowing the gamer to type and participate in online chat.

The controller is also capable of giving haptic feedback, or tangible feedback, in form of vibration, buzzing or shaking movement. Though the new Xbox controller is still a patent, but GameInformer predicts that the announcement may come out in June during Microsoft’s E3 conference.

Moreover, as per Futurism, Microsoft has previously introduced its Xbox Adaptive Controller last year that was specially designed for gamers with limited mobility and featured two hand-sized buttons with an oversized D-pad.
