ISLAMABAD: Ameer, Jamaat e Islami, Pakistan, Senator Sirajul Haq, has said that putting the IMF people in controlling positions was a threat to the country’s independence and sovereignty.

Speaking in the Senate on Tuesday, he said that the IMF’s supervision of our affairs, decision making and dictation was an indication that we have surrendered our independence without a war.

He said that country was being placed under the East India Company once again. He said that pushing the homeland toward dictatorship under the garb of democracy would create gave threats to the country.

He said that previously, our experts used to hold talks with the IMF people but now the IMF people would be holding talks with the IMF team.

Sirajul Haq said that the government did not consult the opposition regarding  ways and means for economic improvement nor did it trust the country’s economic  experts in this respect. Now, the government was trusting fully on the IMF although the IMF experts were the prime cause of the destruction of our economy.

The JI chief slated the government decision to withdraw official security from JUI-F president Maulana Fazlur Rehman. He said there had been several attacks on JUI-F chief in the past and threats were being given to him even now.

He said that withdrawal of security from the Maulana proved the bias of the ruling party. He urged the government to restore the official security to the JUI-F president.

Continuing, the JI chief said that the country was passing through most critical situation. He said that since 2007, none of the governments had given NFC award although it was a constitutional requirement to give NFC award after every five years.

He said the provinces had suffered because most of the resources were with the centre. He said that unjust distribution of the national resources led to a sense of deprivation among provinces.

The JI chief expressed surprise on the Prime Minister’s statement that the provinces had failed in tax collection and the FBR had not achieved its target.  He said it was the federation’s responsibility to strengthen its institutions and added that the provinces could not be blamed on this account.

Sirajul Haq said there was deep sense of deprivation in the KP after the merger of the tribal areas.
