LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar chaired a meeting here Monday to review progress on development schemes being executed in southern Punjab currently.

He directed the authorities concerned to expedite pace of work on development road map of the remote and backward areas, besides ensuring completion of uplift schemes by the end of current fiscal year.

Buzdar said that in the new Pakistan, more work should be done instead of lip-service and performance would have to be given for bringing about a positive and visible change. He said that mere presentations would not work and governance would improve only when people would be facilitated in a real sense. Therefore, development schemes linked with common man's welfare should be completed on time, he added. Those found responsible for delay in public welfare schemes would be taken to task, he warned.

He said that people would get relief due to timely completion of development schemes pertaining to healthcare and education sectors, infrastructural development, repair and maintenance of roads and provision of clean drinking water. He assured that there would be no discrimination in distribution of development funds among the districts, asserting that government had ensured transparent utilization of development schemes and no compromise would be made on the quality and time-line of the schemes.

The CM said that work on beautification of entry and exit points of southern Punjab districts should be completed soon. Similarly, an effective system should be put in place for removing garbage from cities.

Punjab Planning and Development Department's chairman, Senior Member of Board of Revenue, Additional Chief Secretary (Home), Punjab IG Police, administrative secretaries and others attended the meeting.
