Mahira, Shehzad slam troll for accusing showbiz to be reason behind rape cases
Many Pakistani celebrities have been raising their voices ever since a rise in the horrific rape cases of minors. Celebs came together to condemn the recent rape of another minor Farishta, but instead were criticised by some social media users, who also accused their showbiz industry to be the reason behind the heinous crime.
Actors Mahira Khan and Zeba Bakhtiyar, singer and activist Shehzad Roy and cricketer Younis Khan, along with others, addressed a press conference on Thursday and put forward a list of demands for the protection of the children. In response to the their presser, a social media user tweeted to Mahira and accused the people working in showbiz for promoting vulgarity that has caused an increase in the rate of rape cases in Pakistan.
Tagging Shehzad and Zeba and using the hashtag #JusticeForFarishta, the troll told the actors to ‘back off’ from such cases. Reacting to his accusation, Mahira slammed him for wrongly accusing showbiz and criticised the ‘mindset’ in the society. She also said she will not back off and keep raising her voice. “The ‘vulgarity’ causes someone to go rape a 10-year-old and then kill her? Get a grip. It’s the mindset! It’s the shame associated with it,” she wrote.
Really? The ‘vulgarity’ causes someone to go rape a 10 year oldand then kill her? Get a grip. It’s the mindset! It’s the shame associated with it. And no I will not back off. My voice. My life. I will do whatever I want with it. https://t.co/exOTug98pj

Supporting Mahira, Shehzad also condemned the troll for accusing media industry for such crime.
Most sexual violence takes place where there is no media and biggest victims are children
The motivation behind rape is power & dominance. Such people see strong women, that can speak up for their rights & chose to live their lives on their terms, as a threat
