Gwadar gets over Rs 4bn for uplift projects

ISLAMABAD: The government has allocated over Rs 4 billion for the development of Gwadar for fiscal year 2019-20 through various projects including construction of airport, railway corridor, desalination plant and fish landing jetty.

The New Gwadar International Airport will receive Rs 555 million of which Rs 200 is foreign aid. The project was approved by Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) on January 12, 2015 with total estimated cost of Rs 22,247 million.

For acquisition of land for Railway Corridor from seaport and railway operational land, an amount of Rs 800 million has been allocated.

To ensure security of the future’s economic hub, Rs 50 million have been earmarked for Gwadar Safe City Project Phase-I against the total cost of Rs 1475.88.

The Gwadar Smart Environmental and Sanitation System and Landfill under China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will receive Rs 100 million.

An amount of Rs 200 million has been allocated for construction of Break water Groyne wall and allied work at Eastbay (Demizer) and Rs 88 million for construction of Senior Superintendent Police, Lines Headquarter for National Highway and Motorway Police.

A seawater desalination plant with a capacity of five million gallons water per day will be installed in the port city, for which Rs 400 million have been earmarked against Rs 3042.8 million total cost.

For construction of fish landing jetty and allied harbor facilities at Pishukan, Gwadar, Rs 172 million have been allocated against the total estimated amount of Rs1,347 million.

The Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute at Gwadar will be constructed with this year’s allocation of Rs 425.5 million, of which foreign aid amounts to Rs 350 million.

An amount of Rs 1,000 has been allocated for Gwadar Development Authorty and Rs 200 million for the Modern Custom Collectorate.

An animal quarantine will be established in Gwadar with Rs 20 million earmarked for this year.
