Priyanka Chopra to receive UNICEF humanitarian award
Global icon Priyanka Chopra will be receiving ‘Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award’ by UNICEF's American chapter in December. The award is named after actor-philanthropist Danny Kaye, who was UNICEF's first Goodwill Ambassador.
Actress and philanthropist announced the news on social media with an image taken on one of her charity trips. “So incredibly humbled. Thank you UNICEF USA for honouring me with the Danny Kaye Humanitarian Award. My work with UNICEF on behalf of all the world’s children means everything to me,” she wrote.
Priyanka promotes various causes on behalf of UNICEF such as environment, health, education and women's rights and is particularly vocal about gender equality.
Earlier this year, Priyanka was surrounded with controversy when she promoted war between two rival nations Pakistan and India through one of the tweets. This did not sit well with many in Pakistan and soon after a petition against her started doing rounds on social media, demanding her removal as UNICEF's Goodwill Ambassador over her promoting war.
