NAB gets another extension in Asif Ali Zardari's physical remand

An accountability court granted on Monday another extension in the physical remand of former president Asif Ali Zardari to the National Accountability Bureau (NAB)  in the fake accounts case.

The former president was presented in the accountability court by the bureau as his physical remand ends today. Since accountability court Judge Arshad Malik has been removed from his post, another judge presided over the case proceedings.

During the hearing, the bureau sought another extension in the physical remand of Zardari. NAB prosecutor told the court that they needed time to further investigate. The court accepted the request and granted the bureau the physical remand of Zardari till July 29, local media reported.

Speaking to the media outside the court, the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) co-chairperson was asked about the recent revelation by international media that Pakistan Muslim League - Nawaz President Shehbaz Sharif and his family had embezzled millions of pounds out of £500 million aid lent by the Department for International Development (DFID) for earthquake victims.

The former president replied that how could Sharif embezzle the money when all the funding goes into the State Bank of Pakistan.
