LONDON: Benchmark diesel refining margins in northwest Europe fell on Monday, weighed down by weak demand and heavy imports into the region.

No diesel barges traded during the afternoon window.

Water levels along the Rhine river, a key waterway for transporting commodities and other products from coastal areas to inland locations in France, Germany and Switzerland, fell to 193 cm at the Kaub point, their lowest since May 21.

Rising imports from the Middle East and Asia Pacific were weighing on margins, traders said.

Spain's Petronor has completed a planned maintenance shutdown at its 220,000 barrel per day (bpd) Bilbao oil refinery, it said on Monday.

The maintenance, which started on May 27, led to the shutdown of crude unit 1, which has capacity of about 130,000 bpd.

Valero Energy Corp restarted the compressor for the two hydrocracking units (HCUs) at its 335,000 bpd Port Arthur refinery in Texas on Sunday, sources familiar with plant operations said on Monday.
