Inzamam reveals his biggest accomplishment as Pakistan chief selector

Pakistan’s outgoing cricket chief selector Inzamam-ul-Haq termed the inclusion of youngsters as his biggest achievement during his stint as the country’s cricket chief selector.

“I believe the real work that we have done are the number of youngsters that we are leaving behind, to whom we gave the opportunity, which was a tough decision. I am hopeful that in 10 to 12 years, the people would realize when these youngsters would bring in victories for the country. So if I look at my entire three years tenure as the chief selector, my biggest achievement was bringing in youngsters in all three formats of the game,” said Inzamam.

Players including Fakhar Zaman, Faheem Ashraf, Hasan Ali, Imam-ul-Haq, Mohammad Abbas, Shadab Khan, Shaheen Shah Afridi and Usman Shinwari made their international debuts during Inzamam’s tenure, while Babar Azam rose to prominence as Pakistan’s batting mainstay and among the leading batsmen in world cricket.

“I am hopeful, that these players would emerge as great players in the coming two years,” he added.

A day ago, Inzamam announced that he will be stepping down from his post of Pakistan cricket chief selector, as he would not seek a contract renewal. The decision came after Pakistan ended their World Cup campaign, after failing to make into the semifinals of the tournament.
