Facebook reportedly plans to rename Instagram, WhatsApp
Facebook is reportedly planning to make some changes in the names of its companies Instagram and WhatsApp, by adding its own name along with them.
Showing its control on both the sites, tech giant Facebook might be rebranding and adding its name to WhatsApp and Instagram, which will then be known as ‘WhatsApp from Facebook’ and ‘Instagram from Facebook’, as reported by The Information.
Facebook to reportedly merge WhatsApp, Instagram, Messenger
Letting Instagram and WhatsApp operate independently has helped keep both the apps away from all the privacy scandals faced by Facebook, but on the other hand, associating these apps with their parent firm’s name can enhance the overall companies’ brand with consumers.
The ‘from Facebook’ branding will be visible inside the apps, for example, the users will be able to see it when they log on, and elsewhere, such as in app stores including Android’s Google Play and Apple’s App Store.
A Facebook spokesperson verified the change of names to the publication saying, “We want to be clearer about the products and services that are part of Facebook.”
Moreover, as per The Verge, Facebook already follows the similar approach for its enterprise chat tool Workplace which is named as ‘Workplace by Facebook’.
