Former Pakistan captain and cricket pundit Rashid Latif has slammed the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for reducing the number of players to 19 in the newly released central contracts on Thursday.

"What is the need of a selection committee, did the selection by themselves, now the selection committee would be played with these players, it would have been better if this was done in consultation with the selection committee," tweeted Latif.

PCB awarded on Thursday central contracts to 19 players for the 2019-20 season, during which the men’s cricket team will play six World Test Championship Tests, three ODIs and nine T20Is.

The PCB have cut the contracts from 33 to 19 players, with veteran cricketers Mohammad Hafeez and Shoaib Malik not been offered central contracts. The board, however, said that the players will remain available for selection.
