Celebrities show outrage over Amazon rainforest fire
On Monday afternoon, the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, went dark but it wasn't some strange cosmic event but it was due to the single largest tropical rainforest in the world being destroyed. Many celebrities from across the world have been taking to social media to show their concern.
The horrific fire is burning in one of the world’s most crucial natural landmarks — but it’s taken three weeks for the world to really take note.

Okay on a different note guys, the “lungs” of the earth are on fire. If the Amazon goes, we the humans will go. This is THE biggest emergency and we are all oblivious. Why the hell is no mainstream channel talking about this? 😳 #savetheamazon #AmazonFire https://t.co/dlO4c5cTXL

The 'lungs of our planet' are burning! The #AmazonRainforest is home to about 3 Mn species of plants & animals and 1 Mn indigenous people. It plays an important role in keeping the planet's carbon dioxide levels in check. We won't exist without it! #SaveTheAmazon #PrayforAmazonas https://t.co/9rKfTYXolL

When a fire tore through Notre-Dame cathedral in Paris earlier this year, donations poured in across the world at such a rapid rate, as more than one billion were raised in just two days. The world was made aware of the catastrophe within three minutes of the first flame.
The world’s biggest rainforests have been burning from weeks but no one took notice till yesterday when it started to trend on social media.
