Pakistan emerging U19 batsman Haider Ali is looking forward to playing his first-ever Asia Cup and is confident to put up a good show with the bat for his team.

Talking to media at State Bank Ground, Karachi where they were to play a practice match, he said, “It will be my first major tournament since I have joined the Pakistan U19 team. I know about the tough competition there as some top teams will participate in it but I am looking forward to proving my worth.”

Commenting on Pakistan team’s preparation for the tournament, the opener briefed that they are ready for the mega tournament. “Our preparations are going well,” said Ali. “We had a camp ahead of series against Sri Lanka that gave us a good bit of time to gel up. Following Sri Lanka tour, which was great, our same squad toured South Africa. During these two series, we made only two changes, so our combination is going really well.”

As far as his performance is concerned, the elegant right-hander scored 214 runs at an average of 53.50 against Sri Lanka while gave a tough time to South African bowlers at their backyard by scoring 317 runs which include a century knock. Pakistan outshined the Proteas 7-0 in the One-Day series.

“My recent performances have given a lot of confidence. I have tried to cover all the flaws in my performance which is important to make myself more competent,” he maintained.

The Attock born, who is also known for his consistency, was neglected by selector on district level and on recent tours. “I was not demotivated or disheartened with that. My name was in the reserve players for Asia Cup last year.”

To a query about aiming a certain team in the Asia Cup, the 18-year-old said that they will play competitive cricket against each team in the tournament. “Our focus is to win the tournament. I don’t think we are focusing on a particular team.”

Talking about Pakistan-India clash, the opener said that the team is in no sort of pressure against arch rivals.

“There is no pressure upon us. We will take it as a game, whether we play India, Afghanistan or any other team. We are well prepared,” said Ali.

India, Pakistan, Afghanistan and UAE are pooled in Group ‘A’ while Group ‘B’ comprises Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, UAE and Nepal.

Revealing his role for the Asia Cup U19, the aggressive opener said he hasn’t planned anything special. “Nothing special for Asia Cup, I just want to give my team the best opening stand as I could and play my part in team’s victory.”

It is worth to mention here that the Under 19 Asia Cup will star from September 5 and the final of the tournament will be played on 14th of the month.
