UN gives Hafiz Saeed access to bank account
- The UNSC did not raise any objection over the matter
- Hafiz Saeed can withdraw Rs150,000 for expenses and family needs
(Karachi) The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) has allowed Hafiz Saeed Ahmed to use his bank account for basic expenses and to support his family.
According to report, the Pakistani authorities had approached the UNSC and requested it to allow Hafiz Saeed to use his bank account. In its appeal to the UNSC, Pakistan government had said that they have received a request from Hafiz Saeed, who has “worked as assistant professor in University of Engineering and Technology Lahore for the period 1974 to 1999, and had completed a pensionable service of 25 years and drawing a pension of Rs45,700 through his bank account.”
In a letter, the UNSC stated that the body had not raised any objection over the matter and the chair has allowed Hafiz Saeed to use his bank account for expenses. The letter added that the UNSC body allowed Hafiz Saeed to withdraw approximately $1000 (Rs150,000)for expenses and family needs.
Earlier in July, Hafiz Saeed was arrested by Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) while he was on his way to Gujranwala from Lahore for a case hearing.
