Sarfaraz takes the blame as Pakistan suffer T20I whitewash

  • Sarfaraz admits to Pakistan's poor show in all aspects of the game.
  • The skipper says he wanted to form a much needed partnership with Haris Sohail, but failed to do so.

Pakistan captain Sarfaraz Ahmed admitted that he is responsible for the team's failure, after the Men in Green failed to avoid a 3-0 whitewash against Sri Lanka last night.

“When the team isn't performing then the captain is responsible,” said the captain during the post match conference. Sarfaraz said that the team, despite getting a good start, lost their way in the middle, losing the third match in process.

Sarfaraz said that the team failed to express themselves and took pressures in all aspects of the game. The captain further said that they excluded veteran players Shoaib Malik and Mohammad Hafeez as they wanted to try other players during the series before the Australia tour.

“We need to improve in all facets. If we keep dropping catches like this in the middle overs, we won't be able to beat any team,” he said.

About his decision to bat at number four slot, the skipper said that he wanted to take the innings deeper with Haris Sohail, unfortunately Haris got out early and they failed to form a much needed partnership.

“Till Haris was there for 2-3 overs, the strike rotation was happening but he tried a shot and got out. After that, all other batsmen tried but the Required Run Rate (RRR) just kept on inching up,” he added.

The skipper further said that the team alongside the captain is responsible to deliver when needed, and cannot afford to miss chances.
