Announcing full support to Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl's Azadi March against the government which is set to begin on October 31, former prime minister Nawaz Sharif said on Friday, "Our viewpoint is the same as that of Maulana's."
Talking informally to reporters at an accountability court on Friday, Nawaz, who was accompanied by his son-in-law Mohammad Safdar, said that Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman had called for resignations and protest after the 2018 general elections, but "We had convinced him not to take that course. But now I feel that his argument was solid." Not paying heed to Maulana's call for the march would be a mistake, he opined.
Nawaz said he has already written a letter to Shahbaz Sharif in this regard, detailing the future course of action of the PML-N and expressed hope that the PML-N president would brief the media on it.
It may be added that Safdar had already disclosed that the party supremo's message to the workers was that "they must participate" in Maulana Fazl's protest. "Those who love the country will join the march," he had quoted Nawaz as having said. PML-N President Shahbaz Sharif skipped "an all-important meeting" with Nawaz in jail on Thursday, fuelling speculation the two brothers had developed differences over the issue of joining the JUI-F's march on Oct 31. A backache was cited as the reason for Shahbaz's failure to meet his elder brother.
PML-N's Lahore President Pervaiz Malik said that on the directives of Nawaz, the party would take part in the march. "Time has come to get rid of Imran Khan's fascist government," he said. Captain Muhammad Safdar (retd) told reporters that Nawaz Sharif has apprised Hussain Nawaz of sit-in's strategy. "Hussain Nawaz will convey his father's message to Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman," he added.
He further commented that the purpose to lodge a new case against Nawaz Sharif is to cut off his contact with Maulana Fazal-ur-Rehman. On the other hand, PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal said the case has been lodged against Nawaz Sharif for political revenge. He affirmed that the hardships will not demoralize the party.
PML-N Information Secretary Marriyum Aurangzeb said it is unfair to bring Nawaz Sharif to court like this. Nawaz Sharif is the epitome of politics, she affirmed. She further added that rumors of differences between Nawaz Sharif and Shehbaz Sharif are not true. Nawaz Sharif has said that he can leave the entire world but not his brother, she concluded.
