‘Don’t know whether Pakistan-India bilateral series will resume’: BCCI chief Ganguly

  • BCCI chief says the decision lies with the governments of both countries.
  • Pakistan and India last played a bilateral series back in 2012.

The newly elected Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) President Sourav Ganguly has said he cannot answer whether the bilateral cricketing ties between Indian and Pakistan would resume or not.

The Indian ex-captain was of the view that the decision lies with the governments of both countries to decide. “You have to ask that question to [Indian PM] Modi ji and the Pakistan PM. Of course we have [to take permission], because international exposure [tours] is all through governments. So we don't have an answer to that question,” said Ganguly, quoted India TV.

The cricketing ties between the neighbouring countries have come to a standstill amid escalating tensions on LoC. The two countries remain on loggerheads after India announced that it would be scrapping special status to Indian occupied Kashmir (IoK).

The two neighbours last played a bilateral series in 2012, when India hosted their neighbours for three ODIs and two T20Is.

The recent appointment of Ganguly as BCCI chief was celebrated around the cricketing world. Former Pakistan fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar said that the Indian ex-captain who, as per Akhtar, shared the leadership style with that of PM Imran Khan, could create a difference in world cricket

Ganguly, who currently serves as president of Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), would be formally appointed on October 23.
