Pakistan People's Party (PPP) will continue its own mass mobilisation campaign against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government while participating in Maulana Fazlur Rehman's Azadi March, Business Recorder has learnt. In this regard, PPP has instructed its leadership in district, tehsil and union councils to enhance public contacts and ensure active participation of party workers.
"After the shocking defeat in Larkana by-election, our party needs to flex its muscles and show strength," a senior PPP leader told Business Recorder.
He claimed that jiyala caravans would leave for Islamabad from Sindh traveling through different parts of the province where they would be warmly welcomed, subject to senior PPP leadership deciding to participate in Azadi March.
PPP senior leader Muhammad Naveed Chaudhry told while talking to Business Recorder that party chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari has given green signal to party's organisations to welcome and receive JUI-F Azadi March. He said PPP is waiting for the announcement of the schedule from JUI-F for march across the country.
"We will participate in Azadi March but in parallel the PPP will continue its own mass mobilisation campaign against selected and incompetent PTI government. Our Chairman Bilawal Bhutto has launched the campaign with his address in Karachi on Friday," he said.
The PPP leader said campaign against PTI government is on issues facing the common people including price hike, unemployment, increasing price of petroleum products, gas and electricity tariffs. "We are not seeking any NRO, we intend to highlight the problems facing by the people," he said adding that PTI has taken a U-turn in all its pre-election pledges.
He further said the Sindh government would facilitate JUI-F in making its 'Azadi March' successful and ensure the marchers from Sindh do not face any difficulties in their journey towards Islamabad.
The PPP leader stated that "we do not believe in the politics of staging sit-ins, but now when the PTI government is continuing to ignore parliament and oppressing political rivals, we might consider taking extreme measures."
PPP Senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar told this correspondent that our party's district organisations would welcome Azadi March of JUI-F. However, he said our party leadership would decide whether to participate in the Azadi March or not. He said an important meeting of PPP core committee would be held in the next few days in this regard.
Earlier, the PPP had made it clear that it would not support the JUI-F's sit-in. Bilawal told the media last month that PPP is against the tradition of sit-ins. He had announced 'moral' support for JUI-F but made it clear that the party would not practically engage in the Azadi March.
