The Islamabad Capital Territory police on Monday started implementation of its strategy for preventing entry of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) workers in the city for Azadi March and lockdown, and arrested two of its workers for violating Section 144, which has already been imposed in the federal capital.
The city police arrested Shafiqur Rehman and Muhammad Irshad over charges of inciting other people to take part in the JUI-F's Azadi March and also recovered banners and other material from their custody.
Police said that the accused breached Section 144 that was imposed earlier by the local administration to bar the JUI-F workers from gathering and staging any protest in the capital. The suspects were busy displaying banners and posters of the JUI-F in different areas of the capital and were provoking people against the government to take part in the Azadi March. Some workers ran away soon after they saw police coming to arrest them.
Police said that the high-ups of police decided that all entry and exit points of the federal capital would be blocked prior to march with containers. The city police have demanded more than 550 shipping containers to stop marchers before they enter the city. More than 100 containers will be required in and around 10 locations of Red Zone, they said.
