While the strike of young doctors continued on the 12th consecutive day at outdoor patient departments (OPDs) of the public sector hospitals, Health Minister Dr Yasmeen Rashid called on Chief Minister Usman Buzdar to brief him about the strike and anti-dengue efforts.
Talking on the occasion, the chief minister said that patients are facing difficulties due to the strike of doctors and added that it is a painful matter that patients remain deprived of timely treatment due to this strike.
The Punjab government has constituted a committee to hold negotiations with the doctors as the government wants to settle matters with mutual consultation, he said. "I want that every patient gets treatment facilities in the hospitals; the strike is against the norms of the medical profession and a negation of commitment of serving the ailing humanity." The doctors are not serving the nation by closing roads as patients and general public are suffering and such agitation is unbecoming of the doctors' profession. He reiterated that treatment is the responsibility of the doctors and there is no justification to stop working for fulfilling the demands.
The chief minister approved the recruitment of new doctors with directions to take immediate steps for their recruitment. He said that provision of the best healthcare system is the mission of the government. He also directed to continue surveillance of dengue disease and added that clinical management should also be focused because there is no room for any leniency in this regard. The secretary SH&ME, secretary information and secretary to CM were also present on this occasion.
