The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the federal government to complete formation of Workers Welfare Fund (WWF) and makes it functional. A two-judge bench comprising Justice Umar Atta Bandial and Justice Ejazul Ahsan, while taking up a case pertaining to Workers' Welfare Fund, directed the government to release funds to provincial boards.
The bench also questioned why no funds have been released for death and marriage grants, saying these are very important matters. The deputy attorney general informed the court that constitution of Workers' Welfare Fund has not been completed as two more members are needed. This prompted Justice Bandial to say that it is the failure of the government and assured the litigants that the court will listen to their plight. The hearing of the case was adjourned for an indefinite period of time.
