On this day 72 years ago, Indian security forces landed in Srinagar to occupy and oppress the people of Jammu & Kashmir violating international law and international norms. On 5th August 2019, India moved to alter the disputed status of occupied Jammu & Kashmir and change its demographic structure. The illegal and unilateral Indian actions have been rejected by Pakistan and the Kashmiri people for being in violation of international law, relevant UNSC resolutions, and India's own solemn commitments made bilaterally to Pakistan as well as to the people of occupied Jammu & Kashmir.

For almost three months now, Kashmiris have been prisoners in their own homes, aliens in their own land, and unable to walk on their own streets. The whole area has been turned into a large prison. India's inhuman lockdown with accompanying tales of torture and brutal repression, and false claims of 'normalcy,' have exposed this so-called 'democracy.' The international media and human rights organizations continue to document the tragedy of Kashmir as it goes on unfolding.

Despite the horrendous nature and scale of Indian atrocities, and facing the worst form of state-terrorism, the brave people of occupied Jammu & Kashmir have demonstrated remarkable courage, strength and resilience. They have proven that India cannot break their will with the use of brute force.

I would like to assure my Kashmiri brothers and sisters that we honour their sacrifices and salute their indomitable spirit as we observe this Black Day. We also re-affirm our unflinching moral, political and diplomatic support to the people of IOJ&K in their just struggle. This support and solidarity will continue until they achieve their legitimate right of self-determination as enshrined in international law, the United Nations Charter, and relevant UN Security Council resolutions.
