Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT) corn futures eased slightly on Thursday on expectations that drier US weather may help farmers advance their harvests next month, traders said.
"Drier weather across the corn belt tomorrow through much of next week should allow harvesting to make better progress," weather forecaster Maxar said. Snow, cold and rain has slowed harvesting in parts of the central United States this week. The harvest was already behind schedule after rain and floods stalled plantings in the spring.
The US Department of Agriculture reported export sales of US corn in the week to Oct. 24 were 549,100 tonnes, in line with trade expectations for 300,000 to 800,000 tonnes.
