Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) core committee has decided to file a case against the statement of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (Fazl) chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman that the protestors have the capability to arrest prime minister from home.
This was announced by the Defense Minister Pervaiz Khattak who is also head of the govt's negotiation committee, on Saturday during a press conference.
Rejecting the demand of JUI-F for resignation of Prime Minister Imran Khan, Khattak said the opposition parties have yet to give their charter of demands to the government. "They (protestors) have not even discussed the demand for prime minister's resignation", he added.
Khattak said the prime minister could not resign over demand of some 20,000 to 30,000 people of nine political parties, he said.
Khattak maintained that it would set a bad precedent to accept whatever they want. He said the members of the opposition's Rahbar Committee have signed an agreement and it should honor that commitment, adding that action would be taken as per the Constitution against those found involved in law violation.
He said the government and negotiators were saddened by the speeches delivered by opposition leaders on Friday. He said they were criticizing state institutions, which belong to the entire nation rather than just the government. He said army is completely neutral and had not helped this government assume power.
Khattak said the government is ready to talk with the opposition even now, but their demands should be within the ambit of the Constitution. If they do not wish to follow their agreement with the government, they should have never agreed to it, he said.
The agreement, Khattak referred to, states that the government would not try to obstruct the JUIF's march to the federal capital. Additionally, the protesters would hold a rally at a ground near Islamabad's H-9 sector, where they are currently camped, and would not enter the Red Zone.
Education Minister Shafqat Mahmood speaking on the occasion said the PTI had demanded recounting of votes in four constituencies where they found rigging; however, JUI-F has not come up with such a demand.
Khattak said Azadi March could help India because it has driven the issue of Kashmir to the background. "If anything is damaged or anyone is harmed by the Azadi March, the responsibility for it would fall on the opposition and not the government." he added.
