Maulana Fazlur Rahman has accused Imran Khan of taking power last year with the help of the military. Not only has Imran denied the accusations, the army has also rejected such allegations quite strongly. It was only on Monday that the army put its entire weight behind country's institutions, including the incumbent government, to the chagrin of opposition parties, including Maulana's JUI-F.
An embittered Fazl is now making a vigorous attempt at face-saving after his 48-hour ultimatum for prime minister's resignation expired on Sunday. How ironic it is from opposition's standpoint that the 48-hour deadline came and went, with the government remaining intact.
The question is: why is Fazl insisting that opposition parties will not leave him in the lurch even after witnessing whatever happened at Peshawar Morr where his supporters remained enthusiastic but the other opposition parties did not mobilize their supporters in large numbers, and their leaders left Islamabad even as Rahman remained?
