PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakthunkhwa Minister for Population Welfare Salim Khan said on Sunday the government had approved 70 megawatt electricity project at Lawi in Chitral district to improve voltage and arrest the menace of load shedding in the province.
"The Lawi project costing Rs.12.5billion will be inaugurated soon," he said while addressing a public gathering on inauguration of newly constructed Government High School at Thar in Chitral.
He said work on two more hydel power projects would start this year to help bolster energy sector in Khyber Pakthunkhwa.
The Minister said record development projects have been completed in Chitral during last fours years for education uplift, including establishment of two university campuses, two degree colleges, four higher secondary schools and dozens of high, middle and primary schools.
In addition to Lawari Tunnel project, he said small and mega development projects costing Rs.three billion were near completion. The projects included Chitral Bypass road, Chitral Town and Darosh Water Supply Schemes, District Headquarters upgradation and extension of Chitral Shagoor Road.
The Minister said agriculture loan more than Rs.1.81billion have been waived off due to floods besides provision of 2000 employment to candidates of Chitral on merit. The Minister said the government strongly believes on socio-economic empowerment of masses.
He said Quaid e Awam Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto Shaheed and Benazir Bhutto Shaheed had sacrificed their lives but not compromise on rights of oppressed strata and democracy. The Minister said mission of Shaheed Bhuttos would be completed at all cost.
The Minister said President Asif Ali Zardari was pursuing the policies of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto to take the country out of existing challenges.
The Minister said PPP popularity graph has increased manifolds in Chitral like others parts of the country due to record development works and will get thumping victory in upcoming general election. He urged party workers to inform public about achievements made by the government during last four years. The other leaders and workers of PPP also addressed on this occasion.
