Despite deployment of heavy contingents of police personnel in the federal capital due to Azadi March during the last week, armed robbers and dacoits struck at eight places and made off with cash and valuables worth millions of rupees.

According to data gathered by Business Recorder, over eight cases of various kinds of theft, six cases of carjacking, three cases of kidnapping and two cases of murder were reported to the city's various police stations during the period under review.

In the same period, most favorite areas for the criminal gangs were within the limits of Karachi Company, Margalla, Kohsar, Nilor and Shalimar police stations. During the last week, two cases of robbery and one case of auto theft were reported to Karachi Company police station.

Sajjad lodged a complaint with Karachi Company police station that three armed persons riding a bike snatched a laptop, cash and ATM card from him at gunpoint. Another Zeeshan Haider informed Karachi Company police station that unknown robbers stole a video game, a bag and other valuables from his car. Auto thieves stole a car bearing registration number MY-388 of Mukhtiar Khan from the jurisdiction of same police station.

During the last week, Shalimar police station registered one case each of robbery and kidnapping. Muhammad Ashfaq filed a complaint with Shalimar police station that Abdul Qayyum and Shumiala Bibi allegedly stole gold of Rs 700,000 from his shop. Another Abdul Shakoor informed Shalimar police station that Shakeel along with two other persons allegedly kidnapped his daughter.

During the period, Margalla police station registered one case each of robbery and auto theft. One Nawaz informed Margalla police station that unknown persons stole cash and phone cards of Rs 50,000. Motor vehicle thieves lifted a bike bearing registration number RIK-5749 of one Sheraz Shaukat.

Similarly, auto theft stole a Suzuki van baring registration TL-089 of one Shahid, stole a bike bearing registration AXM-859 of one Saqib Iqbal and stole another bike bearing registration number RIW-514 of one Irfan Liaqat from the limits of Kohsar police station during the last week.

A man namely Mirza Khan shot his wife Khaista Gulo Bibi dead and then killed himself at Mir Hazar Khan Bijarani Farmhouse within the jurisdiction of Nilor police station over a domestic dispute. The deceased family was leaving in the servant quarters of the farmhouse, police said.

In the same period, Sihala police registered one case of auto theft, and one case each of kidnapping was reported to Industrial Area and Golra police stations.
