- Blue velvet evening gown that Diana famously wore to the White House in 1985 will be put on auction on December 9.

One of the most iconic dresses of late Princess Diana is soon to be auctioned. The Victor Edelstein blue velvet evening gown, which Diana famously wore to a dinner at the White House in 1985, will be put on auction on December 9.
Diana wore the dress on multiple occasions, but most notably at a White House state dinner, where she famously danced with actor John Travolta to songs from his hit film ‘Saturday Night Fever’.
The off-the-shoulder velvet gown was paired with a sapphire, diamond and pearl choker necklace and sapphire and diamond earrings. The dress is reportedly estimated to sell for 250,000 to 350,000 pounds (or roughly $325,000 to $450,000).
However, this isn’t the first time that the gown has been put up for sale. Just two months before her death in 1997, Diana sold it for £100,000 to raise funds for the Royal Marsden Hospital Cancer Fund and the AIDS Crisis Trust. It remained with Florida-based businesswoman Maureen Dunkel until she went bankrupt in 2011 and finally sold it to a British man, who purchased it for his wife in 2013.
