Chicago Board of Trade soyabean futures ended lower on Monday as uncertainty about US trade talks with top global soya buyer China and improving South American crop weather overshadowed strong weekly US export inspections, traders said.
CBOT January soyabeans settled down 4-1/2 cents at $8.92-1/2 per bushel after dipping to $8.92, the contract's lowest since Sep. 12.
CBOT December soyameal ended down 70 cents at $298.30 per short ton while December soyaoil fell 0.44 cent at 30.44 cents per pound.
Friday is first notice day for deliveries against the CBOT December soyameal and soyaoil futures contracts.
Forecasts called for improving crop weather in South America, including beneficial rains this week in Brazil and Argentina. China imported 3.793 million tonnes of soyabeans from Brazil, its largest supplier, in October, down 42% from 6.53 million in the year-ago month, customs data showed.
However, Chinese buyers scooped up at least 20 cargoes of Brazilian soyabeans last week as uncertainty over a trade deal with the United States sent them rushing to lock in supplies, traders said.
