Following the resignation of Leader of the Opposition and Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif, PML-N MNA from Sheikhupura Rana Tanvir Hussain was appointed on Thursday as the chairman of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC).
The PML-N president had resigned from his post on November 18 a day before his departure to London with ailing brother Nawaz Sharif. Shehhbaz had nominated Hussain as his replacement.
The PML-N MNA was named for the position by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf's Sardar Nasrullah Khan Dreshak, PML-N Senator Mushahid Hussain Syed and Pakistan Peoples Party leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf, local media reported.
Last year in December, Shehbaz was elected as PAC chairman unopposed after the government finally surrendered before the opposition’s demand. PAC is considered to be the most powerful and important committee of the Parliament.
