Composition of NSU senate: Minister advises VC to choose relevant people from industry

Federal Minister for Education and Professional Training Shafqat Mahmood has advised the vice chancellor of National Skills University (NSU) to choose the relevant people from industry for composition of senate of National Skills University (NSU) as it plays greater role in progress and growth of institutions.

The minister advised this during a meeting where he was given a detailed briefing on progress, issues and solutions of National Skills University by Vice Chancellor Dr Mohammad Mukhtar.

The meeting was also attended by Chairman Higher Education Commission Dr Tariq Banuri and higher authorities of the ministry and the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission (NAVTTC).

National Skills University will serve as centre of excellence and assist the stakeholders to impart training in traditional indigenous skills and 21st century skills by keeping in mind the national needs in the contemporary era of industrial revolution. Website of the university www.nsu.edu.pk has also been registered.

Mahmood also advised the vice chancellor to focus upon the practical aspects of programmes being introduced, instead of academic aspects, so that everybody passing out the varsity may get employment easily and immediately.

The federal minister also advised National Skills University and NAVTTC to enhance mutual coordination to avoid the same programme or training by two respective institutions.

Concluding the meeting, the minister remarked that this work should have been taken place very earlier, but the good thing is that "we have right person to lead the National Skills University and to compete the developed countries in this race."

Earlier an exhibition of modern and contemporary art was inaugurated by minister for Federal Education and Professional Training, and National History and Literary Heritage here on Wednesday.

This international conference and exhibition on aesthetic encounter between traditions and modernity in Pakistani art and culture is part of a 10-day long series of activities being organized as part of Islamabad Art Festival 2019.

The conference underlined and emphasized the importance and the role of universities in the development of art and culture of Pakistan. Cultural diversity is a vital social and traditional resource that must be embraced as a unifying bond in Pakistani modern art, said Rector CUI Prof Dr Raheel Qamar while addressing the participants.

The traditional arts are the backbone of Pakistan's cultural heritage and in this constantly changing world; they give distinct identity to modern arts.

The main focus of conference was to concentrate on building a bridge between the traditional arts and modern arts of Pakistan and highlight the importance of creating modern identity of Pakistani art based on its cultural heritage.
