TCV drive begins in Sindh
World Health Organization-recommended typhoid conjugate vaccine (TCV) has been introduced with a campaign in Sindh, which is the centre of ongoing extensively drug-resistant (XDR) typhoid outbreak that began in November 2016. Many cases have been reported in Hyderabad since 2016.
The campaign has been jointly launched by EPI, Health department, Government of Sindh, WHO, UNICEF. With the support of civil society organizations PHC Global has conducted pre-campaign social mobilization reached at hard to reach and high risk population areas in District Hyderabad. Qasimabad and few areas of
Hyderabad city have been reported high risk population. Javed Hussain, leading a CSO named Sindh Community Foundation said that joint efforts of CSOs and government were very much supportive to achieve the target.
