Chicago Board of Trade soft red winter wheat futures fell 1.8 percent on Tuesday, with traders noting profit-taking following the most-active contract's run-up to a six-month high on Friday.
The drop was the biggest for soft red winter wheat in percentage terms since October 2.
Losses accelerated as the benchmark March contract dropped below key moving averages, and wheat closed near session lows.
Concerns about export demand for US supplies contributed to the bearish tone.
Egypt's state grain buyer, GASC, said on Tuesday it bought 295,000 tonnes of Russian wheat at its latest international purchasing tender. There was no US wheat offered in the tender.
K.C. hard red winter wheat futures also declined, pulled down by soft red winter wheat contracts after trading in positive territory for much of the session.
MGEX spring wheat contracts were firm. Traders said some unwinding of spreads between the different wheat contracts contributed to the strength.
