November CPI inflation up 12.7 percent YoY

The Consumers Price Index-based inflation on year-on-year (YoY) basis witnessed an increase of 12.7 percent in November 2019 from 116.18 points in November 2018 to 130.90 points. The CPI on month-on-month basis went up by 1.34 percent in November to 130.9

The Consumers Price Index-based inflation on year-on-year (YoY) basis witnessed an increase of 12.7 percent in November 2019 from 116.18 points in November 2018 to 130.90 points. The CPI on month-on-month basis went up by 1.34 percent in November to 130.90 points from 129.16 points in October 2019.

According to Pakistan Bureau of Statistic (PBS), CPI general in October 2019 increased by 11.04 percent, which was recorded at 5.7 percent in November 2018. According to PBS on MoM basis, CPI general recorded an increase of 1.34 percent in November 2019 against an increase of 1.8 percent in October, while CPI witnessed a reduction of 0.1 percent in November 2018.

The CPI inflation Urban, increased by 12.1 percent on annual basis from 116.94 points in November 2018 to 131.05 points in November 2019, while in October 2019 urban CPI was increased by 10.9 percent while it was recorded at 6.3 percent in November 2018. Urban CPI on monthly basis increased by 1 percent from 129.75 points in October 2019 to 131.05 points in November 2019 which in past month registered an increase of 1.6 percent while in November 2018 it was reduced by 0.1 percent.

The CPI inflation Rural recorded an increase of 13.6 percent on annual basis from 115.03 points in November 2018 to 130.67 points in November 2019 while in October 2019 CPI rural witnessed an increase of 11.3 percent and it was recorded at 4.7 percent in November 2018. On Monthly basis, rural CPI increased by 1.9 percent from 128.28 points in October 2019 to 130.67 points in November 2019 while on monthly basis rural CPI went up by 2.2 percent and it was reduced by 0.2 percent in November 2018.

According to PBS, the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) based inflation which measured variation in the prices of 51 essential kitchen items and daily use items on weekly basis registered an increase of 20.2 percent on YoY basis from 113.82 points in November 2018 to 136.83 in November 2019, while it was increased by 15.1 percent a month earlier and in November 2018 it recorded an increase of 0.8 percent. On MoM basis, it increased by 3.7 percent from 131.93 points in October 2019 to 136.83 points in November 2019, while in past month it was increased by 2.7 percent and in November 2018 it recorded a reduction of 0.7 percent.

Wholesales Prices Index (WPI) based inflation on YoY basis increased by 11.2 percent from 127.86 points in November 2018 to 142.17 points in November 2019, while it was recorded at 13.3 percent a month earlier and WPI was increased by 18.6 percent in November 2018. WPI inflation on MoM basis decreased by 0.8 percent from 143.34 points in October to 142.17 points in November 2019, while in October it was increased by 2.0 percent and in November 2018 it witnessed an increase of 1 percent.

Core inflation measured by non-food non-energy Urban CPI (Core NFNE) increased by 7.5 percent on YoY basis in November 2019 as compared to an increase of 7.7 percent in the previous month and 7.7 percent in November 2018. On MoM basis, it increased by 0.3 percent in November 2019 as compared to increase of 0.5 percent in previous month, and an increase of 0.4 percent in corresponding month of last year i.e. November 2018.

Core inflation measured by non-food non-energy Rural CPI (Core NFNE) increased by 8.4 percent on YoY basis in November 2019 as compared to an increase of 8.6 percent in the previous month and 7.1 percent in November 2018. On MoM basis, it increased by 0.5 percent in November 2019 as compared to an increase of 0.7 percent in previous month, and an increase of 0.7 percent in corresponding month of 2018.

Core inflation, measured by 20 percent weighted trimmed mean Urban CPI (Core Trimmed) increased by 9.5 percent on YoY basis in November 2019 as compared to 8.9 percent in the previous month and by 6.7 percent in November 2018. On MoM basis, it increased by 0.4 percent in November 2019 as compared to an increase of 0.5 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.3 percent in corresponding month of 2018. Core inflation, measured by 20 percent weighted trimmed mean Rural CPI (Core Trimmed) increased by 10.7 percent on YoY basis in November 2019 as compared to 9.4 percent in the previous month and by 6.3 percent in November 2018. On MoM basis, it increased by 0.7 percent in November 2019 as compared to an increase of 0.7 percent in the previous month and an increase of 0.5 percent in corresponding month of last year.

Following commodities' prices witnessed an increase on month on month basis: tomatoes, 149.41 percent; pulse Maash, 11.72 percent; pulse Moong, 7.79 percent; wheat, 6.86 percent; potatoes, 6.72 percent; wheat flour, 4.74 percent; beans, 4.53 percent; onions, 3.82 percent; dry fruits, 3.22 percent; pulse Masoor, 2.66 percent; mustard oil, 2.49 percent; pulse gram, 1.94 percent; milk fresh, 1.42 percent; cooking oil, 1.2 percent; fish, 1.17 percent; gram whole, 1.04 percent; and vegetable ghee, 1 percent.

While on MoM basis, prices of following items witnessed a reduction: fresh vegetables, 11.52 percent; chicken, 2.28 percent; sugar, 1.18 percent; and fresh fruits, 1.03 percent.

On MoM basis, prices of following non-food items were increased: woolen readymade garments, 3.62 percent; woolen cloth, 3.15 percent; and construction wage rates, 1.08 percent. While prices of the following items decreased: electricity charges, 0.93 percent; and liquefied hydrocarbons, 0.47 percent.

On YoY basis prices of following food items increased: tomatoes, 436.88 percent; onions, 156.06 percent; pulse Moong, 54.03 percent; potatoes, 42.40 percent; pulse Maash, 41.6 percent; fresh vegetables, 40.36 percent; sugar, 33.46 percent; butter, 31.65 percent; gur, 30.12 percent; condiments and spices, 19.24 percent; tea, 16.98 percent; vegetable ghee, 16.59 percent; wheat flour, 16.19 percent; cooking oil, 15.61 percent; pulse Masoor, 15.51 percent; wheat, 15.34 percent; meat, 13.4 percent; pulse gram, 12.14 percent; and milk powder, 11.21 percent. While on annual basis, chicken prices witnessed a reduction of 15 percent and eggs prices decreased by 7.91 percent.

Prices of following non-food items were increased on YoY basis: gas charges, 54.84 percent; cigarettes, 21.97 percent; electricity charges, 18.48 percent; motor vehicles, 17.51 percent; construction input items, 17.48 percent; motor fuel, 16.23 percent; motor vehicle accessories, 14.38 percent; cotton cloth, 12.73 percent; transport services, 12.12 percent and MBBS doctor clinic fee, 11.16 percent.

Prices of the following commodities on account of WPI on MOM basis increased: eggs, 23.68 percent; vegetables, 16.46 percent; electrical energy, 13.96 percent; woolen carpets, 9.23 percent; synthetic carpets, 9.21 percent; hides, skins & fur skins, raw, 9.06 percent; bed foam, 7.35 percent; dyeing material, 6.87 percent; fibre crops, 6.01 percent; bed sheets, 5.53 percent; edible roots/potatoes, 5.04 percent; quilts, 3.35 percent; furnace oil, 3.34 percent; pulses, 3.1 percent; towels, 2.87 percent; vegetables & fruit juice, 2.78 percent; wheat flour, 2.22 percent; and meat of animals, 1.62 percent.

While prices of following items on accounts of WPI witnessed a reduction on MoM basis: poultry, 19.54 percent; fresh fruits, 6.31 percent; maize, 5.33 percent; millet/bajra, 5.33 percent; steel bar & sheets, 2.43 percent; sorghum/jowar 2.24 percent; and blended yarn, 1.88 percent.

Prices of the following commodities on account of WPI on YoY basis registered an increase: stimulant & spice crops, 72.24 percent; vegetables, 70.23 percent; edible roots/potatoes, 65.54 percent; sorghum/jowar, 63.46 percent; dyeing material, 41.61 percent; sugar refined, 35.56 percent; lathe machines, 30.23 percent; natural gas liquefied, 28.35 percent; sugar crops, 27.27 percent; cotton seeds, 25.86 percent; electrical energy, 25.01 percent; spices, 24.42 percent; auto tyres, 23.25 percent; motor spirit, 22.68 percent; motor vehicles, 22.65 percent; pipe fittings, 20.66 percent; diesel oil, 20.37 percent; kerosene oil, 19.24 percent; fertilizers, 18.62 percent; steel bar & sheets, 17.95 percent; vegetable ghee, 17.7 percent; medicines, 16.57 percent; readymade garments, 15.5 percent; pulses, 14.9 percent; rice, 14.33 percent; bed foam, 14.21 percent; printing paper, 14.02 percent; synthetic carpets, 13.62 percent; silk & reyon fabrics, 13.55 percent; sugar confectionary, 13.25 percent; wheat flour, 12.73 percent; other cereal flour, 12.62 percent; vegetable oils refined, 12.52 percent; steel products, 12.2 percent; coffee & tea, 11.88 percent; glass sheets, 11.78 percent; maize, 11.71 percent; oil cakes, 11.48 percent; woolen carpets, 11.4 percent; dried fruits & nuts, 11.31 percent; automobile oil, 11.04 percent; meat of animals, 10.85 percent; and cotton yarn, 10.42 percent.
