Nepra to issue licence to KP for laying transmission lines
Chairman, National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA), Tauseef H Farooqi Saturday said that the authority intends to issue license to KP for laying its own transmission lines and establishment of transmission companies to generate electricity and contribute it to national grid.
He was talking to KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan during a meeting here in Chief Minister's House on Saturday.
Advisor to Chief Minister for Energy & power Hemayat Ullah Khan, Member NEPRA from KP Engineer Bahadur Shah, Member NEPRA Punjab Saifullah Chatta, Member NEPRA Sindh Rafiq Ahmed Sheikh, Member NEPRA Balochistan Rahmatullah Baloch, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Shahab Ali Shah and others were also present on the occasion.
Chairman NEPRA assured KP Chief Minister that the authority will cooperate maximally with the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government in resolving power problems of the province.
The Chief Minister and Chairman NEPRA discussed issues relating energy and power of the province in detail. The Chief Minister stated that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will take steps to work together with NEPRA for a long lasting solution to Energy and Power load shedding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa including newly merged tribal districts.
He said that NEPRA has already issued license to Sindh Province for generating its own electricity which is also contributing electricity to National Grid Station.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that upgrading the transmission lines is indispensable to solve the power problems in the province on permanent basis.
He emphasised on improving the transmission lines, up-gradation of grade stations and power installations in the newly merged tribal districts, so as to ensure uninterrupted power supply to the tribal people, adding that the provincial government desires to work on new hydropower projects with the collaboration of NEPRA in the province.
Mahmood khan stated that the incumbent government is also taking special measures to initiate new energy and power projects for the production of its own electricity, which will not only overcome the power problems but will also boost the revenue generation in the province.
Mahmood Khan assured Chairman NEPRA that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will provide every possible support and will also facilitate NEPRA at every forum, so as to resolve the power issues in the province.
The Chief Minister lauded the provincial representation in NEPRA, adding that this model would help in solving the problems of electricity in all the provinces of the country. "Through concerted efforts the country will move forward towards development and prosperity," he added.
The Chief Minister furthered that provincial representation in NEPRA is of paramount importance, as it will solve all the power and energy issues and will also help in economic stability of the provinces.
The Chief Minister stated that the incumbent provincial government is taking pragmatic steps to facilitate its public, the government will extend all out support to NEPRA for the further improvement of energy and power sector of the province.
