Mayor highlights plight of persons with disabilities
Mayor Karachi Wasim Akhtar on Monday said the legislations to protect rights of persons with disabilities are minimal and their implementations are weak in the country.
"We want special persons to have access to all basic facilities as the normal people do," Wasim said at an event organised by the Pakistan Disabled Association (PDA) at a local hotel. He said the federal, provincial and local governments are on the same page for facilitating the persons with disabilities. The office bearers of PDA and other organisations working for persons with disabilities were also present on this occasion.
Mayor said that the issues faced by disabled persons should be resolved so they could live their lives with dignity. Unfortunately in our country no law making was done for rights of disabled persons and if anything like this happened ever, it was not implemented.
These persons have played good role in the development and prosperity of the country.
Mayor said that with the efforts of MNA Kishwar Zehra, the standing committee of the national assembly has passed the bill in this connection and hope the national assembly would too approve it soon after which disabled persons would be able to do the lawmaking for themselves. He suggested the word "special person" for disabled.
