Seminar on 'HIV/AIDS' held at KMU
The Institute of Public Health & Social Sciences, Khyber Medical University has organized a seminar on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) /Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome (AIDS) on world day to raise awareness about HIV/AIDS and demonstrate international solidarity in the face of the epidemic.
Secretary Health KP Muhammad Yahya Akhunzada was the chief guest and Vice Chancellor KMU Professor Dr Arshad Javaid grace the occasion as guest of honour.
In his address Secretary Health KP reiterated the government's promise to work towards the eradication and control of HIV/AIDS from the society. He maintained that the provincial government is conscious of its responsibilities and accord high preference for prevention and treatment of this disease.
He said this year, the World AIDS day is really important for Pakistan after discovering number of HIV/AIDS cases in the province of Sindh. Media's attention and public reaction to the cases was the powerful reminder to the government and our society towards the global epidemic, he added.
VC KMU Professor Dr Arshad Javaid said that according to UNAID, there are 160,000 HIV positive people in Pakistan, and they are those who are registered with the state-run AIDS control programmes.
