Two FIRs were lodged on Thursday against lawyers for attacking the Punjab Institute of Cardiology (PIC) a day ago.
The two FIRs were lodged on behalf of the doctors who were attacked and the police in Shadman Police Station, local media reported. Clauses of the Anti-Terrorism Act were added in both cases. Beating up the doctors and hospital staff as well as vandalizing public and private property were also made part of the FIRs.
A large number of enraged lawyers stormed and ransacked the PIC on Wednesday, due to which at least four patients lost their lives. The lawyers mostly carrying sticks shut down hospital’s entry and exit points. The situation turned violent when some lawyers torched a police mobile van and pelted media personnel with stones.
Provincial Information Minister Fayyaz-ul-Hassan Chohan was also manhandled by protesting lawyers. Some lawyers had also fired gun shots in the air outside the hospital. Police used tear gas and baton charge to remove the lawyers from the hospital's premises.
After hours of continued violence, the Punjab government also summoned extra troops of Rangers personnel to maintain law and order and around 35 lawyers were arrested. The lawyers stormed the PIC building to protest against a mocking video of their colleagues by doctors on social media.
