MCC destroys seized goods worth millions of rupees

The Model Customs Collectorate of Appraisement-East Friday held a destruction Ceremony of confiscated goods at Gadap Town, Karachi. Member Customs (Operations), Dr Jawwad Uwais Agha was the chief guest at the ceremony while Madam Surayya Butt, Chief Collector Appraisement, Dr Wasif Ali Memon, Chief Collector Enforcement, Arsalan Subuctageen, Director General, Intellectual Property Organization and Dr Nadeem Memon Collector, MCC (Appraisement-East), Karachi along with the representatives of different law enforcement agencies were also present at the event.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Jawwad Uwais Agha, Member Customs (Operations) stressed that Pakistan customs was working vigorously to root out the menace of smuggling from the society. He said that Pakistan Customs had now been accepted as the lead agency to curb smuggling and urged the staff to work dedicatedly for achieving the goals.

Dr Muhammad Nadeem Memon, Collector (Appraisement-East), Karachi informed about the goods, which were destroyed in the event. He said that said that 34 consignments comprising 75 containers, which were not fit for human consumption. The consignments worth of Rs 211 million include expired pesticides, cosmetics, tobacco products, expired seeds and dates and other products.

He further said that MCC (Appraisement-West), Karachi also confiscated 12 more consignments worth Rs 56 million contained goods imported against the violation of import regulations. In addition, narcotics worth Rs 988 million including heroin 25.75kgs, hashish 27kgs and crystal 650 kgs, 65517 bottles of liquor and 72 cases of cans, 756 tons of betel nuts, Gutka 19.8 tons, Supari and Pan Masala 621kgs and miscellaneous other goods seized by MCC (Preventive), Karachi.

Furthermore, he said that Directorate General of Intelligence and Investigation-FBR, Karachi has also seized 240 tons of betel nuts, tobacco weighing 2.5Metric Tons, Chinese salt weighing 4.7 Metric Tons and Hormone Injections of 11095 pieces and other goods having overall worth of Rs 215 millions.

The Directorate General of Intellectual Property Rights confiscated 55 different imported and exported consignments having worth of Rs 14.87 millions in violation of Intellectual Property Rights violation.
