As the Supreme Court announced its verdict in Army Chief extension case, the lawmakers from both the treasury and opposition said the issue is pertaining to security of the country and there should be legislation through consensus.

Talking to journalists outside the Parliament House, the MPs belonging to both opposition and treasury seemed somewhat unanimous, saying 'things should be done through consensus.'

They said that the political parties will take decisions after consulting their top leadership as it is a sensitive matter where the opinion of an individual does not matter.

According to them, the issue of army chief's extension, wherein the court has already ordered legislation, should be done after detailed deliberations by rising above party lines, in order to settle the matter once for all. Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda said that the matter regarding extension in service of the army chief would be resolved through an Act of Parliament.

He said the government is not ready to sit with corrupt leadership of the opposition parties but it is the prerogative of the Prime Minister and his cabinet to take decisions in the larger national interests.
