Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Assembly Hamza Shahbaz on Tuesday approached the Lahore High Court for bail in Ramazan Sugar Mills reference.

The petition said that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has initiated Ramazan Sugar Mills inquiry with malicious intentions. It initiated the inquiry multiple times but failed to find any irregularity, it added. The drain in question was built in tehsil Bhawana in the public interest and the cabinet and provincial assembly had granted approval for it. The Bureau found no evidence against Hamza, while co-accused in case of Shahbaz Sharif has already been granted bail by the court, according to the petition.

The petitioner pleaded the court for his release in the case. The NAB had submitted supplementary reference in Ramazan Sugar Mills corruption probe against Hamza Shahbaz on November 28.
