ISLAMABAD: Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan on Thursday said the government’s narrative about detailed judgment of special court in the high treason case against Pervez Musharraf, would be made public after its legal team reviewed the verdict.

Talking to media persons, she said that the government would stand with protection of the law.

She said that it was responsibility lawyers of former president Pervez Musharraf to decide about the filing of appeal against the decision of the special court.

Earlier addressing participants of the workshop on role of journalists and future challenges, she said ensuring transparency and good governance was the top most priority of present government.

She said that far-reaching reforms were being carried out in Press Information Department (PID), and a new advertisement policy was being introduced to ensure transparency in disbursement of public sector advertisements.

She said that automation of PID would be done as per vision of the Prime Minister to ensure that regional press get its due right and share.

She said that regional press was playing crucial role in highlighting the problems and issues of the people of far-flung regions but it was not getting its due share in advertisements.

She said that she was in contact with international institutions for training and capacity building of the media persons as it would help promote constructive journalism in the country.

She said that copies of the draft advertisement policy have been shared with the stakeholders and it would be finalized after their input.

She said that with the advent in information technology revolution, the flow of information had become very fast and it was the need of the hour to provide journalists the latest tools so that they could play their role in transformation of the society.

She said that democracy and journalism were interlinked and none of them can flourish single-handedly.

She said that her ministry was planning to open information desks at press clubs in all parts of the country in near future to provide latest information to the media persons and general public.
