Armed robbers stormed the farmhouse of senior lawyer Akram Sheikh, made him and his family hostage at gunpoint and took away cash and other valuables, police said on Saturday.
Police source said two armed robbers broke into the farmhouse of Sheikh, who once headed the government's prosecution team against former president Gen Pervez Musharraf (retd). The farmhouse is located at Chak Shehzad area in the limits of Khanna police station.
They said that robbers remained in his house for two hours and held the family hostage. They looted cash worth Rs 500,000 and two expensive watches before fleeing the scene, they said.
Soon after the incident, police reached the scene and collected evidence as well as conducted search operation in the adjoining areas. Police are also taking help of CCTV footage for the arrest of robbers, they said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Malik Naeem said that armed robbers entered the farmhouse and locked the family in a room at gunpoint after grabbing their mobile phones. They then combed the house and looted it.
Sheikh was appointed special prosecutor by the then prime minister Nawaz Sharif in the high treason case on behalf of the government. He fought the case till 2018 and when the PTI government came to power, he resigned.
Police registered first information report (FIR) against unknown robbers on the complaint of Akram Sheikh's cook at Khanna police station. According to the complaint robbers broke into the residence of sheikh in the wee hours of Saturday and held Sheikh and his family at gunpoint. Robbers looted cash and other valuables, before fleeing the scene in Sheikh's car. The unknown robbers abandoned Sheikh's car near Dokh Kala Khan bridge.
