(Karachi) The Lahore High Court (LHC) has issued orders to release Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Rana Sanaullah on bail in drugs case in the Anti-Narcotics Force on Tuesday.

The LHC directed the Sanaullah to submit two surety bonds of Rs0.10 million.

The court has reserved the verdict in the case on October 2. The release orders were issued by Justice Chaudhry Mushtaq Ahmed after hearing the comments of the ANF and Sanaullah's legal representative.

Rana Sanaullah was arrested by the ANF on July 1, 2019, while he was travelling to from Faisalabad to Lahore. The ANF officials claimed to have seized 15 kilogrammes of narcotics from his vehicle. At least five people, including the driver and security guard of the former law minister were also nabbed.

Sanaullah had been in detention of the ANF for over six months. He faced 19 proceedings since the case was lodged against him by the ANF.

Earlier, Rana Sanaullah's bail plea was rejected on two accounts by the court. The ANF officials had requested the court that they needed time to conduct investigations in the case and apprehend the facilitators and those involved in the narcotics smuggling case.

In October, ANF prosecutor Kashif Javed was also attacked by unidentified people. Javed said prior to the attack, he had been receiving death threats after he was appointed the prosecutor in the drugs case.

Meanwhile, speaking to media persons on the matter, PML-N leader Maryam Aurangzeb said that an innocent person has been released today by the grace of God.

She added Rana Sanaullah was arrested to please Prime Minister Imran Khan.

She maintained that the government failed to prove the allegations levelled against Rana Sanaullah. "He was  politically victimised."

Aurangzeb said that a state institution was against Sanaullah to damage his reputation.
