Mayor says people have forgotten the principles on which nation was founded

Mayor of Karachi Wasim Akhtar on Tuesday said Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the Founder of Pakistan, had democratic vision, but the nation has failed not only in democracy but also in all sectors.

"We have unfortunately forgot the principles and doctrine of Quaid-e-Azam by not strengthening democracy and empowering the common man," Wasim expressed these views while speaking at a seminar held at Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) on the occasion of the 144th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. He said the city's well-off people should learn from the passion of the Quaid-e-Azam for the promotion of education who set up a great example by allocating a huge portion of his property to the Sindh Madressatul Islam.

He deplored that leadership in the past did not fulfill its responsibilities. He urged the youth to forget the mistakes of the past and prepare themselves for future challenges. He said the youth could guide the government through a very important tool of information technology.

The mayor said he had suggested the Prime Minister that the middle class was more frustrated due to corruption in the society which could be dealt with by streamlining the education, health and security.

Vice Chancellor SMIU, Dr Muhammad Ali Shaikh in his welcome address said that many former students of Sindh Madressatul Islam served the city as mayor including Qazi Khuda Bux, Hakeem Muhammad Ahsan and Abdul Sattar Afghani.
