The special court verdict which sentenced the country's former president Pervez Musharraf to death in the high treason case, was challenged in the Supreme Court Thursday.

Petitioner Iqbal Kazmi, a social activist, filed the petition and made the Federation, Ministry for Law and Justice and Interior Ministry as respondents. He took the plea that "dragging a corpse and hanging it at D-Chowk" is humiliation of human body, adding that the verdict of the special court hurts the sentiments of masses.

He added that the special court decision has also created an impression of clash between State institutions, which is not going to serve any purpose.

The verdict has created chaos and crisis like situation in the country, adding people are suffering from insecurity. It is laid down in the context that special court has no power to initiate proceedings under article 6 of the Constitution.

The petitioner has prayed to apex court to nullify the establishment of special court and declare it alien to Constitution, besides reviewing the jurisdiction of special court under law and Constitution.

A three-judge special court had announced that Musharraf "has been found guilty of Article 6 for violation of the Constitution of Pakistan," namely, high treason and subverting the Constitution. Two judges decided in favor of the verdict while one disagreed.

Musharraf, 76, is accused of subverting the country's Constitution in 2007 when he imposed a state of emergency in the country in an attempt to thwart a political opposition movement and also fired most of the judges. Justice Waqar Ahmad, the president of the special court who is also chief justice of Peshawar High Court, wrote in the detailed judgement that "if Musharraf dies, his corpse be hanged at D-Chowk for three days."
