Rejecting the Presidential Ordinance on National Accountability Bureau (NAB) law by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government, the opposition's Rahbar Committee on Saturday asked the government to bring all the legislation related matters to the Parliament.
Convener Rahbar Committee Akram Durrani after a meeting of the opposition parties here while talking to media said the PTI government under Imran Khan amended the NAB ordinance to save the prime minister and his friends.
While criticising the federal government, Durrani said that the government is making all out efforts to protect corrupt elements of the ruling alliance but has badly failed to provide electricity and gas to the people. Durrani alleged that cases are lodged against those who speak up openly. He stressed that the opposition does not want conflict between the institutions.
The Rahbar Committee meeting was attended by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Ayaz Sadiq, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leaders Faisal Kareem Kundi and Humayun Khan, besides Mian Iftikhar Hussain, Usman Kakar, Shafiq Pasrori and Hashim Babar.
The leaders from the opposition parties deliberated on NAB law, Army Chief's tenure extension, Pervez Musharraf case and other important matters. Durrani said all the opposition parties are against the slavery and are in favour of freedom, therefore, movement was launched in the name of Azadi March." Durrani claimed the government is absolutely confused at present.
He maintained that the PTI-led government is following the dictators in letter and spirit; therefore, it has imposed media censorship. Recently Ahsan Iqbal, a member of Rahbar Committee, was also arrested for giving anti-government statements. Ahsan Iqbal worked out mega projects including CPEC as minister for planning and now he has been charged with committing irregularity of Rs 6 billion while the entire project's value was Rs 2.5 billion.
He stated a former prime minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi was also detained in death cell. The opposition parties salute to his courage that he has even opposed to file bail plea. Durrani said that now FIA too has been reactivated after NAB and Wajid Zia has been entrusted the task to make arrests. He claimed the rulers are taking the country where all the institutions are being made controversial. If government pursues this procedure then this is not a good omen, he remarked.
He said Kuala Lumpur Summit was convened on the consensus decision of Imran Khan, Tayyip Erdogan and Mahatir Mohamad but Imran Khan took the biggest u-turn on foreign policy and didn't attend the meeting. The opposition is grateful to Iran, Malaysia and Turkey for casting vote in favor of Pakistan on Kashmir issue.
He claimed that the government says Azadi March sabotaged Kashmir cause but it is government which has bargained over Kashmir issue. The government is not going to the friends who supported Pakistan on Kashmir issue and has offended them, Durrani added.
He further said the Peshawar High Court has ordered FIA to investigate BRT project matters and now the government is going to seek a stay order from the Supreme Court. When PTI's own corruption is coming to fore, it is going to seek stay order, he alleged. He said the government is trying to prolong foreign funding case.
Ayyaz Sadiq said Pervez Musharraf case verdict is a court's decision. "We accept it. The reaction from law minister on this decision falls in the ambit of contempt of court," he said. Ayyaz advised the government to accept court decision in Pervez Musharraf case. He said the government is complainant in Musharraf case, adding the PML-N was then complainant and now PTI is complainant.
