Prime Minister Imran Khan has acknowledged that 2019 was a difficult year for the people of the country as stabilization of the economy fuelled inflation, maintaining that 2020 would be a year of development.

Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of Air University Campus, the Prime Minister stated that 2019 was a difficult year and people suffered because of high inflation due to stabilization measures. He added now there is confidence with stock market showing improvement, foreign reserves are built while economy is stable.

He said that 2020 would be a year of development because there is huge potential in the country in the form of minerals and land. "We can provide food security to the Middle East by increasing productivity," he said adding that potential in the agriculture sector was not materialized in the past.

The Prime Minister said that Pakistan has been declared as number one tourism destination among 20 countries and the government is going to exploit this potential for employment creation in the ongoing year. He said that Pakistan has been making only a few million dollars from tourism whereas Turkey and Switzerland make $40 billion and $80 billion yearly, respectively.

He said the government would start low-cost housing scheme as soon as foreclosure law - presently in Lahore High Court (LHC) - gets clearance from there. He said that the government would also provide Rs 6 billion essential commodities to the poor through Utility Store Corporation. Health cards are also being issued to enable the poor to meet their medical expenditure and Pana Gah are being established in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Punjab and all these things are taking Pakistan towards a welfare state, he said.

He said that State of Medina was based on the principles of humanity, rule of law and education. He said that the government's focus would be on education as high standard of education is very critical for the country and Islam also stresses on education.

The Prime Minister stated, "Our youth can be great strength of the country if they are equipped with education."
